Sounds like you don't have a high opinion of fanfiction. So why do this site?
I love fanfiction, when it's well-written fanfiction. But writing has a caste system. Plus there's the attitude "it's not worth doing if you don't get paid." You will never get rich from fanfiction, unless you manage to get a career like Peter David's (FYI I don't know what kind of living Peter David makes or what kind of fees he has to pay, only that he has written for Star Trek, Marvel, and DC).
But if you have a burning desire to write a story, this site is to help you make it the best it can be.
What does FanFiction Garret mean?
You've never heard the expression "starving artist in the garret"? Simply put, a garret is a tiny attic space--hot in the summer, cold in the winter, cramped but cheap on the rent. Since writers don't make much if any money, they could afford this type of living/working space.
Now if we make the house a house of writers and the types of writing, what gets stuck in the attic? Fanfiction, of course.
